Gettin Thru a Presentation

My 9 year old niece says to me yesterday, “I don’t want to go back to school on Monday because I have a social studies presentation and I don’t want to do it!”

Clearly she is nervous. We have all been there.

Here are simple skills for this 4th grader and for us all!

  • Write down your topic
  • Write down a definition of the topic, a fact or two about the topic, a little known or funny aspect about the topic and an overall summary
  • Write everything down again so you can read it well – each area above in it’s own paragraph
  • Read it out loud again and again – correct/add/subtract words as needed
  • Once you are satisfied, write each paragraph on a separate index card
  • Read everything out load again and again, memorize it if you can, read it to yourself in the mirror
  • Pick your clothes out the night before
  • Wake up early and read everything out loud again
  • EAT
  • Read through everything one last time before you’re up
  • Remember, everyone has had to do this one or twice or more – YOU’VE GOT THIS!
  • Use your cards and tell it like it is

Her topic was in reference to the five regions of the United States (Northeast, Southeast, Southwest, Midwest, West) being the Northeast.

  • Northeast
  • The Northeast Region of the United States includes states like Maryland and has lakes, ocean frontage, valleys, hills and mountains.
  • The North Atlantic Ocean borders some of the states in the Northeast.
  • Part of the Appalachian Mountains are in the Northeast.
  • The smallest US State, Rhode Island, is location in the Northeast Region.
  • My great grandfather lives in the Northeast and I have been to visit him in New York.
  • There are a lot of interesting facts and history about the Northeast Region of the United States, these are just a few. Thank you.
